    Job Description

Analytical Laboratory Technician – Chromatography & Titration

    Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week; typically 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
    Core Hours: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

    Day in the Life

As the newest member supporting Troy Knight’s laboratory team, you’ll begin the morning by unpackaging and preparing incoming sample kits. Once instruments are checked and ready, you’ll set up and run analytical work using GC, LC, and titrators, and carry out physical property assessments such as appearance, color, and solids. Throughout the day, you’ll follow approved procedures, monitor experiments, make careful observations, calculate results, and enter data in well-organized laboratory notebooks and electronic systems.

Afternoons might include cleaning and maintaining instruments, assisting with troubleshooting, and communicating results or potential issues to teammates. You’ll help keep the lab clean, compliant, and audit-ready, working closely with a collaborative group of about 10 team members. This role is a backfill that supports the ongoing testing needs of our Lake Jackson facility.

    Training & Development

You’ll complete approximately 4–6 weeks of Dow-required safety and laboratory training before handling chemicals. After that, you’ll be paired with a subject matter expert for instrument-specific guidance until you are confident and able to work independently.

    What You’ll Do

    • Set up, operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
    • Perform routine analytical testing using GC, LC, titrators, and physical testing methods (appearance, color, solids).
    • Monitor experiments and testing activities per approved procedures.
    • Record data accurately; perform calculations and document results with precision.
    • Maintain complete laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
    • Review analytical results and assist with drawing appropriate conclusions.
    • Unpackage and prepare sample kits received by the laboratory.
    • Follow written procedures, laboratory standards, and safety requirements.
    • Communicate test results, observations, and potential issues clearly to team members.
    • Contribute to a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
    • Support troubleshooting and escalate instrument or testing issues when needed.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Basic understanding of scientific and laboratory principles.
    • Ability to follow written procedures and detailed instructions.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
    • Basic mathematical skills for calculations and data recording.
    • Effective written and verbal communication.
    • Basic computer proficiency.
    • Collaborative mindset and team orientation.
    • Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook and accurate electronic records.

    Preferred

    • Associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in chemistry, chemical technology, laboratory science, or a related field.
    • Experience in a laboratory, analytical testing, or chemical technician role.
    • Hands-on familiarity with GC, LC, titrations, or physical property testing.
    • Knowledge of GMP, GLP, FDA, RCRA, and OSHA requirements.
    • Background in a regulated laboratory or manufacturing environment.

Entry-level candidates and recent graduates from chemical technician programs are encouraged to apply.

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    • Indoor laboratory work only; no field sample collection.
    • Samples are shipped directly to the laboratory; employees will unpackage sample kits but will not perform outdoor or physical sample collection activities.
    • Ability to complete required safety training and follow all laboratory chemical-handling procedures.
    • Ability to work safely around laboratory equipment and chemicals.
