The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is one of the VA’s four polytrauma medical centers and a tertiary referral center for the Upper Midwest, providing primary care and a full range of specialty services including cardiac surgery, cardiology, cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology, general and vascular surgery, neurosurgery, oncology, psychiatry, and neurology. Anesthesiologists work alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary team with modern operating rooms and advanced diagnostic capability.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Cardiothoracic (Cardiac) Anesthesiologist with fellowship training in cardiac/cardiothoracic anesthesia and advanced certification in Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). This is an on-site position delivering comprehensive anesthesia services with a cardiac focus, including CABG, cardiac valve procedures, and diagnostic TEE.

Responsibilities

• Provide cardiac anesthesia for CABG, valve, and other cardiothoracic procedures
• Perform and interpret intraoperative and diagnostic transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
• Deliver general anesthesia care including preoperative assessment and postoperative management
• Provide anesthesia for thoracic, major vascular, orthopedic, and neurosurgical procedures as assigned
• Support anesthesia coverage in the cardiac catheterization lab, electrophysiology suite, GI suite, and radiology
• Care for patients in the ICU, short stay unit, acute pain management, and emergency airway management
• Medically supervise or direct CRNAs as assigned
• Participate in on-call coverage per the facility coverage schedule
• Participate in staff meetings and quality improvement activities

Qualifications

• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)
• Fellowship training in cardiac/cardiothoracic anesthesiology
• Advanced certification in Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
• Recent cardiac anesthesia experience (within the past 2 years) including CABG and valve procedures
• Current, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
• Minimum of two years of recent practice experience

Schedule

• Full-time, on-site at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center
• Weekday operating room coverage, with call coverage per the published facility schedule
