Requirements
- Current NNP Certification Required
- Successful completion of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program
- State of Michigan license
- Minimum two years of NICU experience
- BLS certification
- NRP certification
Duties & Responsibilities
A typical day may include:
- Providing assessment, planning, and evaluation of care for newborns under the direction of attending pediatricians
- Ordering, interpreting, and documenting labs, diagnostic imaging, and treatment plans
- Attending high-risk deliveries to provide resuscitation and stabilization
- Independently performing neonatal transports between hospital systems
- Writing orders for medications, IV therapy, nutrition, blood products, admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Participating in nursing education, competency assessment, and staff consultation
- Assisting with quality improvement initiatives, policy development, and unit procedures
- Submitting accurate and timely billing
- Engaging in ongoing professional development through education and training
- Maintaining confidentiality, safety practices, and adherence to Trinity Healths Mission, Vision, and Values
The Livonia campus includes a Level I nursery averaging 1,000 deliveries annually, and the Ann Arbor campus houses a Level III NICU with about 4,500 deliveries each year.
