    Appointment:

    Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin Fall 2027.

    Responsibilities:

    Main responsibility is teaching undergraduate mathematics, especially statistics courses. Standard teaching load is 6 units per academic year. Also expected to engage in research, advising, and university service.

    Qualifications:

    PhD (or ABD) in mathematics, statistics, or a related field and a commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment are required.

    Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

    Faculty salaries at the University of Puget Sound are based on a common salary scale based on experience. Assistant Professor salaries in 2026-2027 begin at $75,320 for an assistant professor without a terminal degree in their field in their first year of full-time post-doctorate teaching through $86,652 annualized based on experience.

    About Department of Mathematics and Computer Science:

    The Mathematics program offers courses that support a variety of pathways through the Mathematics major, ranging from more applied to more theoretical. Mathematics students frequently participate in research mentored by faculty members (and supported by university summer awards) and also participate in activities such as the ASA DataFest, the Putnam exam and the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The curriculum supports other disciplines as well, with a variety of lower- and upper-division courses including a three-semester applied statistics sequence. The Mathematics program currently has seven full-time faculty members, with interests that include scientific computing, algebraic geometry, combinatorics, computational topology, and large data set analysis.
