The Court of Appeals of Virginia is seeking applications for a full-time Administrative Staff Attorney. This role works directly with the Chief Judge on special projects for the Court and Judges' Chambers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Administrative Staff Attorney reports to the Chief Judge and is responsible, as directed and assigned by the Chief Judge, for tracking cases, monitoring trending legal issues and high-profile matters filed with the Court, and compiling data concerning the Court's dockets. The Administrative Staff Attorney will help track statistics for the Court's Annual Report to the General Assembly. In addition, the Administrative Staff Attorney, as directed by the Chief Judge, will assist the Staff Attorney for Special Projects with research and drafting for judges' Chambers when needed because of temporary staffing constraints. This may include on-boarding new judges and preparing bench memos and other documents for the Court. The Administrative Staff Attorney will generally provide support services for Court-related special projects as assigned by the Chief Judge.

The applicant must be a member of the Virginia State Bar who is interested in a long-term professional opportunity. Outstanding analytical skills, the demonstrated ability to evaluate and synthesize a large volume of information, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The applicant must be dependable, discreet, able to multitask, and possess strong attention to detail, and also must demonstrate competence with computer-based case tracking, legal research, and word processing systems. The best candidate will also possess knowledge of appellate court rules and procedures and have a minimum of four years' experience working with an appellate court or circuit court.
