The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Bilingual provides clinical support to physicians and advanced practice providers while delivering compassionate, patient-centered care. This position assists with patient intake, clinical procedures, medication administration, preventive care, patient education, and care coordination. The CMA must be fluent in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate with HCPSC’s diverse patient population. Portuguese language proficiency is preferred but not required.
· Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining medical histories, vital signs, chief complaints, and other clinical information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
· Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with examinations, procedures, and patient care.
· Administer medications, immunizations, injections, and treatments within the Certified Medical Assistant scope of practice and as directed by the provider.
· Perform routine clinical procedures, including specimen collection, wound care, electrocardiograms (EKGs), point-of-care testing, and other delegated duties.
· Coordinate laboratory testing, referrals, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up appointments to support continuity of care.
· Educate patients regarding medications, preventive care, treatment plans, and provider instructions.
· Promote preventive care initiatives and support quality improvement efforts, including HRSA Uniform Data System (UDS) measures.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
· Maintain examination rooms, clinical equipment, and supplies while adhering to OSHA, infection prevention, and safety standards.
· Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish to assist patients throughout the delivery of care. Utilize approved interpretation resources when required by organizational policy.
· Maintain patient confidentiality and protect health information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
· Collaborate with providers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary care teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
· Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from an accredited certifying organization required.
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
· Fluency in both English and Spanish (spoken and written) is required.
· Portuguese language proficiency is preferred but not required.
· Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a physician practice, outpatient clinic, community health center, or similar healthcare setting preferred.
· Experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or community health center preferred.
· Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems preferred.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, medication administration, and infection prevention practices.
· Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and the ability to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of patient information.
· Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish with patients, families, providers, and staff; Portuguese language proficiency is preferred.
· Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing compassionate, culturally competent, patient-centered care.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate documentation in a fast-paced clinical environment.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
· Ability to exercise sound judgment, respond appropriately in emergency situations, and establish effective working relationships with patients, providers, leadership, and coworkers.
