Job Description

Traveling Skilled Trades Recruiter Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, energetic Traveling Skilled Trades Recruiter to support a nationally recognized construction organization with projects across the United States. This individual will be responsible for identifying, attracting and hiring skilled tradespeople and field labor for active and upcoming construction projects.

The ideal candidate has experience recruiting within the construction industry. Candidates without direct construction experience may also be considered if they have a strong background recruiting skilled trades, craft professionals, field employees or high-volume labor positions.

This is a heavy-travel position. Candidates must be comfortable traveling frequently to project sites, recruiting events, trade schools and local communities throughout the country.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit skilled tradespeople and field labor for construction projects across multiple locations.
  • Develop sourcing strategies based on project schedules and workforce needs.
  • Travel regularly to project sites, job fairs, trade schools, community organizations and recruiting events.
  • Source candidates through job boards, social media, employee referrals, workforce organizations, unions and local partnerships.
  • Build relationships with trade schools, apprenticeship programs, veteran organizations and community workforce programs.
  • Conduct candidate screenings and assess relevant skills, experience, availability and willingness to travel.
  • Coordinate interviews, hiring activities, onboarding requirements and pre-employment screenings.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of qualified candidates for current and future projects.
  • Partner closely with project leadership, field operations and human resources to understand hiring priorities.
  • Track recruiting activity and provide regular updates on candidate pipelines, hiring progress and workforce challenges.
  • Represent the organization professionally in the field and within the communities where projects are located.
Qualifications
  • Previous recruiting experience required.
  • Construction recruiting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience recruiting skilled trades, craft professionals, field labor or other high-volume hourly positions required if the candidate does not have a construction background.
  • Strong sourcing, networking and relationship-building abilities.
  • Comfortable recruiting in the field and engaging directly with candidates and community partners.
  • Excellent communication, organization and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple openings and hiring priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems, job boards and common recruiting technology.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule when recruiting events or project needs require it.
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish
Travel Requirements

This role requires frequent and extensive travel, potentially including overnight and multi-day trips. Travel may vary depending on project locations and hiring needs. Candidates should expect travel to be a significant and ongoing part of the position.

Preferred Experience
  • Recruiting for commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Recruiting electricians, carpenters, equipment operators, laborers, concrete workers, ironworkers, pipefitters or other skilled trades.
  • Building workforce pipelines in new geographic markets.
  • Partnering with trade schools, apprenticeship programs, workforce-development agencies or veteran organizations.
  • Supporting high-volume or project-based hiring.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is proactive, resourceful and comfortable going into local markets to find talent. This person should enjoy meeting people, building relationships and creating recruiting pipelines rather than relying solely on candidates who apply online. The successful candidate will understand the urgency of project-based hiring and be willing to travel wherever the workforce need is greatest.
