Title-Database developer with application experience
Location: 240 greenwich street nyc

Contract: 12 months to perm
Interview process: 2 video interviews to face to face interview (must face to face to meet team)

Must have: SQL development, either java or C#, front end, and devops


Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute complex SQL development as part of large-scale report migration:
  • Rewrite and optimize complex SQL queries
  • Translate existing Sybase-based reporting logic into SQL Server
  • Analyze and improve table structures, indexing strategies, and query performance
• Develop and maintain full-stack reporting solutions:
  • Database layer (SQL Server)
  • Backend services (primarily Java-based microservices)
  • Frontend UI (Angular)
• Work closely with business users to:
  • Compare existing reports with proposed new versions
  • Validate logic, data accuracy, and usability
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Operate within a disciplined Agile/Scrum framework, collaborating with product managers, engineering leads, scrum leads, and global engineering teams
• Contribute to modern DevOps practices (container-based deployments, etc.)

Skill Requirements
Core Technical (Hard Skills)
Most Critical Skills (Must-Have)

• Advanced SQL / Database Development
  • Strong experience writing, refactoring, and optimizing complex SQL
  • Performance tuning at the query and data-model level (not DBA-level engine tuning)
  • Experience migrating reports or data logic between database platforms
• SQL Server expertise strongly preferred
  • Prior experience with Sybase, Oracle, or other relational databases is acceptable
• Strong Data Modeling experience

Backend Development

• Java is the preferred and primary backend language (bank standard)
• C# accepted as an alternative for strong candidates
• Experience deploying SQL-driven logic through microservices

Frontend Development

• Angular
• Modern UI development using JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS
• Versions are generally current (within ~6 months of latest releases)

DevOps / Cloud (Secondary)

• Containerization basics (Docker, Kubernetes concepts)
• Cloud exposure across AWS, Azure, or GCP (no single cloud required)

Work Distribution

• 50 60% Database-focused development
  • SQL rewriting, optimization, tuning, and migration work
• 40 50% Full-stack application development
  • Backend services (Java/C#)
  • Angular UI integration

This is not a DBA role; it is a developer role with deep database expertise. Domain Experience (Nice-to-Have but Valuable)

• Financial services or asset management experience
• Familiarity with:
  • Trade lifecycle concepts
  • Investment instruments
  • Fund accounting or record-keeping platforms
• This domain knowledge reduces ramp-up time but is not mandatory
