Electrical Inspector - 8 Month Contract

SGS is seeking an Experienced Electrical Inspector (Contract) to support a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in the Muncie / Union City area of Indiana. The project is currently in the civil construction phase. Current work includes piling for the compressor building, pipe rack, cooling tower, MCC building, cable tray steel, and miscellaneous supports extending toward the wellhead.

Position Summary

The Electrical Inspector will represent the owner''s side, inspecting the work performed by third-party contractors. The role requires practical proficiency in electrical systems as well as instrumentation and controls (IC&E), with the ability to identify discrepancies, provide knowledgeable technical feedback, complete daily reports, and interface directly with contractor management.

The inspector will also work with multiple equipment vendors and the project startup and commissioning team. Although a commissioning team will be assigned, the inspector must understand how to diagnose electrical, valving, and instrumentation issues and help reduce delays when technical questions arise.

The assignment is expected to begin once the appropriate candidate is identified and is tentatively expected to continue through to June 2027. Potential future work may be available on subsequent projects.

The ideal candidate is a practical, experienced electrical inspector with solid instrumentation and controls knowledge. They can work confidently with contractors, vendors, and startup personnel; understand NEC requirements; identify drawing and field discrepancies; troubleshoot technical issues; and produce clear daily reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect third-party contractors' electrical, instrumentation, and controls work.
• Monitor installation activities and verify that work complies with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Review drawings and identify discrepancies, conflicts, or constructability concerns, and provide knowledgeable feedback to the project team.
• Inspect electrical systems and related equipment, including MCCs, cable tray systems, associated steel and supports, and electrical work connected to project buildings and the wellhead area.
• Apply instrumentation and controls knowledge when reviewing field installations and diagnosing valving or instrumentation concerns.
• Work with multiple vendors and coordinate with the startup and commissioning team.
• Interface with contractor management regarding inspection findings, field issues, quality concerns, and required follow-up.
• Complete accurate daily reports documenting work progress, inspection activities, observations, deficiencies, and contractor interactions.
• Help resolve field issues efficiently by using existing electrical and IC&E knowledge rather than relying entirely on outside resources.
• Maintain a consistent field presence and support project activities through construction, startup, and commissioning.

Required Experience & Knowledge

• Technical Diploma or trade certification in a related field (Electrical/Mechanical Journeyman, Millwright etc.); and/or carries a certificate as one of the discipline Engineers, Technicians, Journeyman Red Seal or Specialists designation.
• Demonstrated inspection experience involving industrial electrical systems.
• Proficiency in instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems (IC&E).
• Experience with industrial instrumentation and controls from manufacturers (For instrumentation, Rosemount and for controls, Allen Bradley would be a definitive asset).
• Experience supporting equipment startup or commissioning activities.
• Prior owner-representative or third-party inspection experience is needed.
• Experience on carbon capture, energy, industrial, process, or similar construction projects.
• Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Candidates may come from an inspection, engineering, technical, or field electrical background, provided they can demonstrate the required proficiency and relevant experience.
• Ability to read and review electrical and instrumentation drawings, recognize discrepancies, and provide practical technical feedback.
• Experience working with contractors, contractor management, equipment vendors, and project or startup teams.
• Ability to diagnose or help troubleshoot electrical, valving, controls, and instrumentation issues.
• Strong written communication and daily reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with field personnel and project stakeholders.
• Broad vendor exposure that allows the inspector to work effectively across different equipment and control platforms.

Schedule, Location & Travel Requirements

• Site-based assignment in the Muncie / Union City area of Indiana.
• Full-time, Monday through Friday schedule, with potential Saturday work depending on project schedule and urgency. Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday 7 am to 5 pm
• Availability to remain at or relocate near the project site for the duration of the assignment is preferred.
• The successful candidate must provide their own transportation to and from the worksite; a company truck is not provided.
• A per diem and milage will be paid depending on the location of the contractor
• The position will be for approximatively 8 months or until the site is in service.
