Engineering Support Machinist/Technician

Position Summary

Marathon Electric is seeking a highly skilled and self-directed Engineering Support Machinist/Technician to lead our internal fabrication shop. This environment functions as a dynamic, internal job shop supporting our engineering test lab (motors and generators) and our instrumentation team (automated test systems).

While this role supports new fabrication, the core of the position is focused on practical engineering support, including equipment repair, fixture modification, general machining (such as bracket fabrication or adding hole layouts), and occasional manufacturing rework. This autonomous role requires an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong mechanical aptitude. The ideal candidate will balance and prioritize their workload without constant oversight, converting ideas and napkin sketches into precise, fabricated parts and working assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

• Support lab testing by building, adjusting, modifying, and repairing fixtures and adapters for mounting and connecting electric motors and generators.
• Support the Instrumentation team with construction of custom electrical cabinets and control consoles.
• Assemble program and operate Tormach CNC machines by generating G-code from 3D SolidWorks models.
• Operate a large build 3D printer, utilizing slicing programs
• Provide manufacturing support by machining custom or reworking production parts in small quantities
• Read blueprints, make necessary corrections to prints as needed, or work directly from verbal and written instructions.
• Perform thread tapping, install replacement inserts, and execute the removal of broken bolts.
• Maintain shop equipment condition through daily preventative maintenance, proper adjustment, and routine yearly upkeep.
• Use computer programs including Word, Excel, and Access to keep drawings and documents organized.
• Order the necessary materials and supplies required for each job.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers to confirm project requirements and ensure the final product meets their needs.

Equipment & Tools Utilized

• Tormach CNC lathe and Tormach CNC mill
• Manual knee mill and manual engine lathe
• Large build 3D Printer
• Surface grinders, pedestal grinders, and hand grinders.
• Drill press, horizontal bandsaw, and vertical bandsaw.
• MIG/TIG Welder and gas cutting torch.
• Sheet metal forming tools and various hand tools

Qualifications & Technical Skills

• Experience in the operation of CNC and manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and general tool room equipment.
• Proven working knowledge of CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Ability to generate G-code from 3D models and operate slicing programs for 3D printing.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers and dial indicators.
• Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, basic electrical understanding, and general manufacturing processes.

Physical & Safety Requirements

• Comply with all company and federal safety rules, policies, and procedures, including wearing required PPE and responding appropriately to safety concerns.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to operate an overhead crane safely.
• Bend, stoop, push, pull, and stand in a busy work environment for up to an 8-hour shift.
• Occasionally climb ladders and/or scaffolding frequently within a shift.
• Grip, manipulate, and hold small parts with fingers.
• Hear different types of sounds, decibels, and tones such as alarms, sirens, and mechanical equipment.
• See without visual impairments, requiring depth perception, peripheral vision, color recognition, and 20/40 acuity or better.

In this business area, our focus is the market of single phase motors for durable consumer goods, such as washing machines, air conditioners, water pumps, among others.

Paints and Varnishes

In this area, which includes liquid paints, powder paints, and electro-insulating varnishes, we have a very clear focus on industrial applications in Brazil and are expanding to Latin America and other regions.
