JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction, develops, coordinates, schedules, promotes, implements, and evaluates City-sponsored events, festivals, rentals, and community celebrations. The position serves as the operational lead for City events and is responsible for event planning, logistical coordination, interdepartmental collaboration, and on-site operational oversight.
The role exercises independent judgment in coordinating event operations, safety logistics, vendor activities, permitting coordination, and operational issue resolution while ensuring events operate within approved budgets, established policies, and safety requirements. This is a hands-on operational position requiring active participation in event setup, execution, breakdown, and real-time event coordination.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in Event Management, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, Hospitality, Marketing, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in event operations, special event coordination, municipal programming, community engagement, or related field; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid State of Georgia driver's license with satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work involves both administrative and physically active operational event coordination duties. The employee must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and perform manual event setup and breakdown activities. Duties regularly include bending, lifting, carrying equipment, operating carts, and working outdoors during events, festivals, and community activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in both office and outdoor event environments. The schedule frequently includes evenings, weekends, and holidays in support of City events and community programs. Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, crowds, and high levels of public interaction is expected. The position operates in dynamic, fast-paced event settings requiring flexibility, physical activity, operational coordination, and on-site presence.
