Why this Role Matters

The Financial Advisor is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with credit union members and clients by providing comprehensive financial planning, investment advisory services, retirement planning, insurance solutions, and wealth management recommendations. The Financial Advisor is expected to identify needs, deepen relationships, deliver exceptional experience, and achieve established business development and revenue goals while adhering to regulatory requirements and fiduciary standards. This includes recommending individually tailored financial planning strategies utilizing appropriate investment and insurance product solutions towards achieving desired short-term and long-term financial goals.

As a Financial Advisor, you will sell investment and insurance products, available through our Broker Dealer, LPL Financial (LPL), to individuals and small businesses. WCU partners LPL, a leading wealth management firm for independent advisors and financial institutions across the U.S., to offer a complete menu of financial products and services to credit union members. This employment opportunity at WCU would allow you to join the Workers Investments & Planning Solutions Program as a Financial Advisor associated with LPL.

What You'll Contribute

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and credit union members through proactive outreach, referrals, seminars, and branch partnerships.
• Conduct discovery meetings to understand members' financial goals, risk tolerance, investment objectives, and overall financial circumstances.
• Build long-term relationships that foster member loyalty, retention, and asset growth.
• Deliver exceptional client service and serve as a trusted financial resource.

Financial Planning and Advisory Services

• Create and present comprehensive financial plans tailored to individual needs.
• Provide recommendations regarding investments, retirement planning, college savings, estate planning strategies, insurance protection, and wealth accumulation.
• Review client portfolios regularly and recommend appropriate adjustments based on changing goals, life events, or market conditions.
• Apply a holistic planning approach that incorporates both investment and protection strategies.

Investment and Insurance Sales

• Recommend and implement investment and insurance solutions aligned with objectives and risk profiles.
• Assist clients with account openings, transfers, rollovers, beneficiary updates, and service-related requests.
• Manage and grow assets under management, gross dealer concessions, insurance premiums, and other assigned production metrics.
• Meet or exceed established sales, revenue, and activity goals.

Business Development

• Generate new business through referrals from credit union employees, member interactions, community outreach, and networking activities.
• Conduct educational seminars, workshops, and events to promote financial wellness and program awareness.
• Collaborate with branch personnel and management to identify member opportunities and enhance referral generation.
• Maintain a visible presence throughout assigned branch locations and communities served.

Compliance and Risk Management

• Maintain adherence to all regulatory requirements, compliance policies, and supervisory procedures governing securities and insurance activities.
• Ensure accurate and complete documentation of client interactions, recommendations, transactions, and suitability determinations.
• Complete required compliance training and licensing requirements in a timely manner.
• Protect confidential member information in accordance with privacy, cybersecurity, and information security requirements.

Program and Team Collaboration

• Partner with credit union leadership and branch staff to support organizational goals and initiatives.
• Participate in sales meetings, training programs, and strategic planning sessions.
• Maintain accurate records within broker-dealer platform, CRM, financial planning, and reporting systems.
• Contribute to a positive culture focused on client service, teamwork, accountability, and professional development.

MARGINAL DUTIES

• Assist with special projects related to the wealth management program.
• Participate in community events, sponsorships, and charitable activities representing the credit union and wealth management program.
• Mentor newly hired advisors or support staff as assigned.
• Provide input regarding sales campaigns, marketing initiatives, and program enhancements.
• Test and provide feedback on new technology, planning tools, and operational processes.
• Support business continuity, disaster recovery, and branch staffing initiatives when required.
• Participate in industry conferences and professional development activities.

OTHER DUTIES

• Maintain all required professional licenses, registrations, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
• Comply with all credit union, broker-dealer, and registered investment advisor policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethical standards at all times.
• Travel between assigned branch locations and attending member appointments as needed.
• Work occasional evenings and weekends to accommodate member schedules, seminars, workshops, and community events.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, required, requested, or deemed appropriate by management.
• Comply with all WCU policies and procedures.
• Contribute to departmental/organizational projects and initiatives.
• Provide backup support to other financial advisors when needed.

What You'll Bring

• Associate or bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field.
• Current FINRA SIE (Securities Industry Essentials), Series 7 & 66 (or Series 6, 63, & 65) & MA State Life, Accident, & Health Insurance license are required.
• CFP designation a plus.
• 3+ years in financial and/or estate planning related work, preferably at a professional financial services company or wealth management firm. Financial service and sales experience preferred.
• Experience and knowledge of working within a broker‑dealer, RIA, bank, or credit union and offered products/services a plus.

Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of investments, retirement planning, insurance products, asset allocation, and financial planning principles.
• Awareness of securities, insurance, banking, and consumer financial regulatory and compliance standards.
• Understanding of investment products (mutual funds, annuities, advisory accounts) and services offered.
• Solid knowledge of wealth management program operations and procedures.

Skills

How You'll Work

Hybrid Work Environment: This position offers a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with regular on-site days. It is based out of our Lunenburg, MA Branch - IPS Offices, however there is flexibility to allow for working remotely as agreed upon. Travel between branches and surrounding communities to meet with assigned clients, members, and credit union employees is standard. This is subject to change based on business needs.

Compensation

Pay Grade: 12

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Grade Range: $60,000 - $200,000+

This is a sales commission-based position consisting of a tiered grid with a monthly draw that has levels of being forgivable and non-forgivable.

Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted pay grade range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
