Job Title: Food Service Worker

Location: TN School for the Deaf (TSDK)
Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Worker plays a vital role in preparing and serving meals to students in our residential dining hall. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, efficient, and welcoming food service environment, as well as assisting with food prep and packing meals for dorms and special events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Note: These duties are not exclusive; other duties may be assigned as needed.)
Food Service & Dining Setup: Prepare the dining area for service by filling ice machines, maintaining water levels in steam tables, organizing hot/cold food displays, and setting out milk, juice, and fruit.
Kitchen Assistance: Support cooks with daily food preparation by fetching ingredients, lifting supplies, and completing other routine kitchen tasks. Pack food for dorm meals and special events.
Sanitation & Cleanup: Ensure top-notch cleanliness across all serving, dining, and kitchen areas. Thoroughly clean refrigerators, food carts, milk coolers, dishwashers, beverage dispensers, floors, tables, and doors. Collect and dispose of all garbage daily.
Restocking & Inventory: Replenish napkins, utensils, and other dining containers before the next meal service. Assist storekeeping with receiving, organizing, and properly rotating incoming food deliveries.
Event Support: Provide support for special campus events throughout the year (requires occasional overtime).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Physical Requirements: Must be able to comfortably lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Kitchen Competency: Basic understanding of commercial kitchen equipment and standard kitchen safety/sanitation practices.
General Skills: Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required to manage inventory, follow recipes, and organize deliveries.

Background Verification
Selected applicant(s) will be required to submit to and pass a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting, to include Tennessee and Federal criminal history checks, child abuse records, employment verification, and professional/personal reference checks.
