    ABOUT US New York Edge is a non-profit organization and one of the largest providers of school-based afterschool programs in New York City and the metropolitan region serving over 25,000 elementary, middle, and high school students each year. The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among students in underinvested communities by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, and leadership skills for success in life.

    SUMMARY Under direct supervision of the Compliance Manager, the Compliance Coordinator handles the various day to day pre-employment related operations within the New York Edge Compliance Department including communicating with staff and management regarding the processing of required background checks for potential employees. The Compliance Coordinator will have experience with pre-employment candidate background check requirements and provide high quality of customer support.

    Primary Job Functions:

    • Review employment background clearance applications for completeness and accuracy, and process all required background screenings within designated timeframe
    • Manage a caseload of background check clearance requests for all prospective employees and transfers
    • Serve as the main point of contact during the background check process to candidates, Program Managers, and external agencies (Third Party) while providing high levels of customer support
    • Ensure proper workflow in document completion, collection, correction, and submission to DOH
    • Work closely with Compliance Specialist on all department operational activities and processes
    • Maintain, update and improve current employee records and database filling system on a daily basis
    • Update individual candidate tracker systems and report out to candidates and management as needed
    • Meet with new and/or rehire to collect and review compliance paperwork ensuring complete and accurate submissions during assigned office hours
    • Assist with Site inspections by preparing personnel compliance files and verifying document accuracy before submission; Conduct periodic site compliance file audits regularly and as assigned
    • Acquire and maintain understanding of background check regulatory requirements that may impact the organizations processes and services
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

    Supervisory Reports:

    • Update and submit new hire background screening updates to Compliance Manager as needed and requested
    • Update internal candidate tracking systems and create staff files on a daily basis

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelors degree preferred or requisite years of experience
    • 1 year of satisfactory experience in Human Resources, Compliance or related field
    • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and diplomacy
    • Solid time management skills and the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines
    • Ability to work accurately and within aggressive timeframes with acute attention to detail
    • Excellent teamwork and ability to work independently
    • Outstanding customer service and follow through skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Super organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
    • Demonstrate ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects; flexible in changing work priorities
    • Proficient with Google Applications and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), including document editing, and tracking changes

    At time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
