## The group you'll be a part of
The Office of the CTO is where innovation takes center stage. We inspire our global technical community to take on grand challenges, understand emerging trends, identify the critical inflections, and drive our sustainability, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices that will define the next generation of semiconductors and continued impact.
## The impact you'll make
As a Global Product Support Engineer at Lam, you're the backbone of technical support for field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel. Your expertise is crucial in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and debugging complex semiconductor equipment. Your swift action in responding to situations is critical in resolving issues and ensuring satisfaction of Lam's valued customers.
## What you'll do
This role's primary responsibility is to be the Office of the CTO technical contact for universities using Lam tools in their labs to enable their success. For tool issues or repairs required, understand the problem statement(s), and drive solutions. This can be to provide the technical solution yourself, or identify the correct resource within Lam who can resolve the problems. For new projects that arise, consult with the university researcher on hardware options and upgrades available. For new chemistries to be evaluated, provide hardware compatibility assessment and recommend changes as necessary.
The role's secondary responsibility is centered on the Lam Fremont Velocity Lab. You will be responsible for driving failure analysis of damaged parts and subsystems to determine root cause. These can include corrosion, contamination, material degradation, chemical incompatibilities, gas interactions, and reliability concerns. You will work with design, mechanical, and electrical engineers to apply first-principles engineering, physical chemistry, thermodynamics, and reaction analysis to identify failure mechanisms and drive corrective actions. As part of this, you will work with the Velocity Lab manager to track lab parts inventory: what needs to be replaced due to failure or having been used, and what needs to be ordered.
