Grants Accounting Specialist

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a non profit organization in Tempe who is in search of a full time Grants Accounting Specialist to join their team. This role is Monday-Friday and has potential to be fully remote for the right individual. The salary range is between $60,000-$65,000.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity of grant funding while supporting the organization's mission through accurate reporting, compliance, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial accounting and reporting for multiple federal, state, and private grants.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Prepare financial reports and reimbursement requests in accordance with grant guidelines.
  • Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance related to grant activity.
  • Track restricted funds and ensure proper allocation of grant expenditures.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Partner with program managers to review grant spending and provide financial guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant regulations.
  • Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel to analyze financial data, reconcile accounts, create reports, and identify trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous grants accounting experience within a nonprofit organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of grant compliance, fund accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are required, including complex formulas, PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and data analysis.
  • Experience with ERP or nonprofit accounting software is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
