Grid Test Bay Application Engineer

Summary:

• Duration: 12 Months

• Description: 

  Working Model: 100% remote until site active, will be going into office 4 days per week once site is active - Mid 2027
  Candidates need to be local so on-site work can be attended once live
  Working Hours: 9am - 5pm
  
  Travel: Domestic, 50%, possible travel to Canada - Once site is live
  Within first year, travel will be closer to 70% - 80% while remote
  
  Interview Process: Virtual with cameras on, 1 round, 1:1 with manager

Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver complex protection solutions for generation, transmission, and distribution systems for electrical utilities and industrial clients.
• Participate in the design and development of microgrid solutions, including power flow optimization and dispatching algorithms.
• Perform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit, load flow, ground grid design, lightning protection studies, insulation coordination, arc-flash studies, and protective device coordination.
• Create relay setting files, including programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic, and Communications settings for company and third-party protective relays.
• Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in-house and at customer installations.
• Model and conduct power system simulations using RTDS simulator or equivalent.
• Provide factory acceptance test plans and testing services to validate protection designs for customer witnessing.
• Plan site acceptance tests and provide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications.
• Assist in software tool development to automate the engineering process internally and externally with key utility partners.
• Participate in project meetings with project managers and customers on technical discussions.
