Job Title: Homebound Teacher Contract Days: 187 Reports to: Assigned Campus Pay Grade: Educator Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Funding Source: Local Revision Date: August 2 022 Primary Purpose: Provide educational services in a hospital/home setting to eligible special education or general education students who are temporarily unable to attend classes on their home campus due to serious illness, injury or accident. Qualifications: Education/Certification: 1. Bachelor's Degree 2. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned (General Education, Special Education, and ESL Certification, preferred) ex: Core Subjects, Generalist, Self-Contained 1-8 3. Valid Texas Driver's License with a clear driving history and reliable transportation Experience: 4. Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience (preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills: 5. Knowledge of core areas of instruction Knowledge of special needs of students 6. Knowledge of ARD/IEP goal setting process and implementation 7. Ability to instruct students 8. Excellent management and communication skills 9. Ability to use modifications/accommoda tions as stated in plans (ARD, 504, general education homebound committee placement) 10. Ability to work with students in crisis situations (acute or catastrophic illness or injury) 11. Ability to maintain confidentiality 12. Skill in working with students who are medically fragile Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans. 2. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills to effectively serve multiple campuses. 3. Participate in General Education, Homebound or ARD Committee meetings to provide guidelines/procedures for homebound services. 4. Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be self -driven and independent while supporting and working with the homebound team members. 5. Collaborate with student's teachers of record regularly to secure assignments/activities and any special information n eeded to provide engaging instruction to meet the student's needs. 6. Implement engaging and effective instruction within and across disciplines, taking into consideration the cognitive, affective, and physical abilities of each student due to the current med ical conditions and treatments. 7. Assess student progress through formal/informal testing and effectively collaborate and communicate with building staff, parents, and students to ensure student's success. 8. Build and maintain a positive and professional relat ionship with colleagues, students, parents, and stakeholders within the community. 9. Maintain professional relationships and educational discussions, as needed, with outside health and medical service providers in the student's home/hospital. 10. Collaborate wit h student records/campus to accurately reflect student attendance. Collaborate with families and campus to ensure smooth transition of student going back to the campus setting. 11. Maintain a high level of confidentiality of student records and situations f ollowing the guidelines of FERPA. 12. Follow all rules, regulations and policies of Aledo ISD and follow directives from supervisor. 13. Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor. Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supe rvisor. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors : Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision -making. Frequent in -district and occasional in -state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Safety: Contr ibute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediatel y to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
