    Job Description

    The Interventional Radiology Technologist completes work in all areas of IR, sterile technique, product allocation, positioning, procedure preparation, and technical factors associated with the IR systems. Performs specialized technical skills in vascular, nonvascular, and interventional procedures. The work will require on-call hours (being on-call and getting called in) in a hospital setting. Works under the general supervision of a Radiologist and completes work in accordance with established protocols. Functions as an educator and role model for less-tenured team members.

    • Excellent listening and interpersonal communication and social skills; ability to sympathize and empathize with patients.
    • Read and comprehend written instructions for imaging orders.
    • Leads and supports operational initiatives and processes in exceeding service standards and expectations.
    • Organize, lead, and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
    • Maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.

    Education

    • Completion of a Radiology Tech Program required

    Certification/Licensure:

    • ARRT required
    • MRT required
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, within 7 days of hire.
    • Leads the quality control measures of the IR department, ensuring good documentation and follow-through on issues.
    • Completes duties related to IR, sterile technique, product allocation, positioning, procedure preparation, and technical factors associated with the IR systems: Performs specialized technical skills in vascular, nonvascular, and interventional procedures.
    • Leads and completes regular and escalated cases of invasive procedure diagnosis and treatment.
    • Operates radiographic equipment, including digital vascular imaging systems, interventional computed tomography (CT), andFluoroscopy.
    • Completes regular and escalated procedures using ablation units, multi-planar navigational equipment, and thrombectomy units. Utilizes catheters, guidelines, stints, and other supplies specific to interventional radiology procedures. Prepares sterile trays and catheter insertion sites.
    • Reviews patients charts and signed consent forms and may explain procedural-related indications and contra-indications as it relates to patient care. Handles escalated cases.
    • On-call hours on a routine basis and will be scheduled on a rotating basis.
    • The IR Technologist communicates well with others and prioritizes multiple tasks.
    • Leads the proper working condition of all IR Department equipment. Leads vendor partnerships to schedule maintenance and repairs and assists leadership in new equipment selection. Manage downtime and service reports.
    • Leads the establishment of QC/QA protocols as required by JCAHO, ACR, OSHA, TDH, and other agencies when applicable.
    • Responsible for the proper use of the EPIC (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, and proper completion of exams).
    • Completes other job-related duties as assigned.
