Role Summary:
LIVE is seeking a motivated Human Resources Classification Specialist to support a federal agency's HR division in Washington, DC. You will function as a technical expert in federal position classification and position management, advising agency managers and HR staff on complex classification actions, organizational design, and OPM standards. You will independently resolve difficult classification issues, conduct position audits, and prepare evaluation statements.
Responsibilities:
Serve as technical expert on federal classification matters — advise Customer management and HR staff on program requirements and practices.
Perform position analysis and evaluation; establish and maintain the position classification program in compliance with OPM standard.
Independently resolve difficult classification issues, including FLSA determinations and situations where classification guides are only partially applicable.
Advise managers on organizational design, position management, and development of position descriptions.
Conduct onsite and telephonic position audits; prepare written evaluation statements; prepare and present advisory opinions.
Advise on classification appeal procedures; ensure appeal packages comply with OPM requirements.
Conduct special classification studies; originate solutions to complex problems; recommend procedure changes.
Plan and advise on implementation of new classification procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of highly technical federal HR experience specializing in position classification and position management.
Comprehensive knowledge of OPM classification standards — FES, FES-S, GSRS.
Experience independently classifying positions across a wide range of occupational series and pay plans.
Proven ability to advise managers on organizational structure, classification changes, and regulatory compliance.
Experience in USA Staffing, as well as the Federal Personnel and Payroll System.
Experience conducting position audits and preparing formal written evaluation statements.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Must be eligible for Tier 2 Public Trust background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with comprehensive classification studies and program-wide reviews.
Familiarity with automated classification tools and shared service center HR systems.
Prior experience in a large federal department's HR operations office.
