This position is expected to be primarily remote with the understanding that it is required to regularly travel to job sites for the purposes of performing its duties. It may also be required to report to the office address listed based on business need and supervisory requirement.

This work unit exists to ensure the safe installation and operation of boilers and pressure vessels by enforcing pertinent codes, statutes and regulations.

This position serves as a fully operational inspector of new and existing boilers and pressure vessels; identifies specific statutory, regulatory and code violations; ensures that noted violations are brought to satisfactory resolution; and investigates boiler accidents to determine the cause and recommend corrective action to prevent a reoccurrence. Position exists to prepare the inspector to attend the National Board Inservice Commission school and take the National Board exam.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:

Current, valid Colorado State certification or license in a trade related to the work assigned to the position

Four (4) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position

Substitutions:

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Google Workspace, MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience in HVAC, Boilers or Plumbing and Heating.

Required Competencies:

  • Professional experience specifically related to boiler operation, maintenance, installation or inspection
  • Technical decision making particularly in regard to compliance and regulatory codes.
  • Comprehension and application of rules, regulations, and codes related to duties.
  • Ability to communicate regulations and technical information to customers/stakeholders.
  • Self-motivating and detail oriented.
  • Effective overall communication.

Conditions of employment:

  • Must be a Colorado resident at time of application.
  • You must pass a thorough background check prior to employment.
  • The person selected for this position must retain a valid Colorado Drivers License and will be asked to submit a Motor Vehicle report for verification.
  • This position will be required to drive Colorado Department of Labor & Employment vehicles and operate relevant equipment to perform job duties.
  • Successfully pass the Inservice Inspector Examination from the National Board of Boiler Inspectors within one year.
