Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on expanding access to affordable housing and strengthening communities through innovative financing solutions. This is a hybrid contract opportunity based in Chicago, Illinois, with three days per week in the office.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interim Chief Financial Officer will provide strategic and operational financial leadership during an executive transition, partnering closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to ensure organizational stability. This hands-on executive will oversee accounting, financial planning, compliance, treasury, budgeting, and stakeholder reporting while supporting the organization's long-term financial health. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative leader who enjoys balancing executive strategy with day-to-day financial operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, accounting operations, cash management, and financial reporting.
Partner with executive leadership and the Board to provide strategic financial guidance and organizational insights.
Oversee audits, internal controls, regulatory compliance, grant reporting, and investor or lender reporting requirements.
Support capital planning, stakeholder relationships, and funding initiatives while ensuring financial sustainability.
Provide leadership for finance and select operational functions, driving collaboration and continuous process improvement.
Strengthen financial systems, policies, and procedures to ensure seamless operations throughout the interim engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience leading finance, accounting, budgeting, compliance, and financial strategy within a nonprofit organization.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, grant accounting, and audit compliance.
Experience presenting financial information to Boards, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.
Hands-on leadership style with exceptional analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
CPA, MBA, NetSuite experience, or experience working with community development organizations, lenders, or mission-driven financial organizations is a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
