Internship, Compliance Test Engineer, Energy Engineering (Winter/Spring 2027)

This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through winter term (ending approximately April 2027 or later, if available). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Compliance Test Engineer to support the global deployment of safety, grid interactive, grid support, and micro-grid inverters.

In this role you'll be responsible for safety and grid certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, certification, and permitting.

Location: Fremont, CA

• Support cross-functional hardware design programs for Industrial Energy Products (Megapack/Powerpack), coordinating across design engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, validation, and quality teams to drive projects to completion
• Develop and maintain project plans and schedules, tracking milestones across design, validation, and manufacturing readiness
• Support build planning and execution across prototype, pilot, and production phases by tracking part readiness, build health, and validation completion
• Be analytical: collect and utilize data to present progress, trends, risks, and opportunities for programs
• Help manage engineering change and configuration control as designs iterate across build phases
• Run meetings, balance multiple workstreams, and drive issues to closure as a flexible and capable problem solver
• Pursuing a Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with the engineering product design cycle, from concept through validation and launch
• Familiarity with system development concepts and multi-level Bill of Material structures
• Experience building or using project management tools and processes to track complex work
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work in a highly cross-functional environment
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a track record of delivering on commitments

Expected Compensation

$20.00 - $50.00 + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
