About J Street J Street organizes pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy Americans to promote US policies that align with Jewish and democratic values, that help secure the State of Israel as a just, democratic homeland for the Jewish people, and that advance freedom, safety and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

J Street focuses its work in three main areas: advocating and demonstrating support for pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy policies in Congress, the media, and the Jewish community; endorsing and supporting federal candidates who share J Streets agenda; and educating the public and raising awareness of the need for a lasting peace that ensures security, dignity, and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians.

Our Core Values Everything we do is grounded in three values that guide how we work and show up for our mission:

Impactful - We act with intention and measure success by the progress we make and the change we help bring about. Adaptable - We treat every challenge as an invitation to think creatively and find a better path forward. Aligned - We are united by shared principles and an unwavering commitment to our mission.

The Opportunity J Street is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Junior Accountant to join its Finance & Accounting team. This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging accounting professional to build hands-on experience within a dynamic and politically engaged nonprofit environment.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance & Accounting and supporting the Accounting Manager, the Junior Accountant will play a meaningful role in the day-to-day accounting operations of both J Street entities, contributing to the integrity and accuracy of the organization's financial records, compliance with US GAAP, and the timely production of financial reporting.

Process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and contribution and grant receivables. Support accounts payable workflows, bank reconciliations, and payment processing using Sage Intacct. Help improve accounting processes, internal controls, and recordkeeping practices.

Administrative Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Assist with organizational registrations, tax-exemption documentation, and compliance-related filings. Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, legal counsel, and government agencies as needed. Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting and collaborate with staff across departments on budgeting and financial matters. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational goals.

What You Bring Required:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; an Associate's degree in Accounting combined with demonstrated professional experience will also be considered. Minimum 2 years of professional accounting experience, including direct work with general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation. Working knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with ASC 958 (nonprofit accounting) and revenue recognition standards (ASC 958-605 / ASC 606) is a meaningful asset. Proficiency in accounting software; working knowledge of cloud-based ERP platforms is expected. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. High level of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive financial information.

Preferred:

About the Company

J

J Street

J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans who want Israel to be secure, democratic and the national home of the Jewish people. Working in American politics and the Jewish community, we advocate policies that advance shared US and Israeli interests, as well as Jewish and democratic values, leading to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As Americans, we advocate in Washington and in national politics for American policy that advances diplomatic resolution of Israel’s conflicts with its neighbors. American policy plays an important role in the Middle East, and the voices of Jewish and other pro-Israel Americans are critical in shaping that policy. Through its advocacy and political work, J Street mobilizes support for American policy that helps resolve Israel’s conflicts diplomatically and reshapes political perceptions of what it means to be pro-Israel. Within the American Jewish community, we advocate that our institutions and leaders ground our relationship with Israel in the same values they apply to other issues, including freedom, justice and peace – the very principles set forth in Israel’s Declaration of Independence. We urge Jewish communal officials and institutions to demonstrate leadership by speaking out in support of policies that align with our interests and values and against those that don’t. We also promote vibrant and respectful discourse about Israel within the Jewish community, expanding American connections to and support for Israel. Launched in 2008 with four staff and a limited budget, J Street is now a $8 million organization with a national staff of 60+. The organization is headquartered in Washington, DC, employing staff in 7 US cities and Tel Aviv. The J Street family of organizations includes J Street – a 501(c)(4) nonprofit which is responsible for lobbying and advocacy; JStreetPAC – a federal political action committee that endorses and raises money for federal candidates; and the J Street Education Fund – a 501(c)(3) that works through community engagement, education and programming to advance J Street’s work.
