We are looking for an experienced Lead HVAC Installer who can take ownership of residential HVAC installation projects from arrival through final startup and customer walkthrough.
JOB SUMMARY
The Lead HVAC Installer is responsible for leading residential heating and air conditioning installations in the field and ensuring each project is completed safely, efficiently, and according to company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable codes.
This is a hands-on field position. The Lead Installer will perform installations while providing direction to other installers or helpers assigned to the project. The ideal candidate has strong technical installation experience, takes pride in craftsmanship, can troubleshoot installation challenges, and is capable of taking ownership of a job from start to finish.
The Lead Installer will work closely with the office and service team to ensure equipment, materials, job requirements, and customer expectations are understood before and throughout each installation.
JOB DUTIES
- Lead residential HVAC installation projects from start to completion
- Perform hands-on installation of furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, evaporator coils, and related HVAC equipment
- Direct and work alongside installation helpers or additional installers assigned to the job
- Review job scope, equipment, materials, and installation requirements before beginning work
- Ensure equipment is installed according to manufacturer specifications and applicable mechanical, electrical, fuel gas, and local code requirements
- Properly remove and dispose of existing HVAC equipment as required
- Complete refrigerant piping, brazing, evacuation, charging, and system startup procedures
- Complete condensate drainage, venting, gas piping, electrical, thermostat, and control connections within the scope of the installation
- Perform required equipment modifications and transitions to properly integrate new equipment with existing duct systems
- Verify proper airflow, temperature rise/drop, refrigerant operation, drainage, electrical operation, and system performance
- Complete startup and commissioning procedures before leaving the jobsite
- Identify installation problems or unforeseen field conditions and communicate them promptly
- Maintain high standards for workmanship, jobsite cleanliness, and property protection
- Ensure installation materials, tools, and equipment are properly used and accounted for
- Minimize material waste and return unused materials when applicable
- Maintain an organized and properly stocked installation vehicle
- Follow all company and industry safety procedures
- Complete required installation documentation, photographs, equipment information, and job notes
- Communicate professionally with homeowners throughout the installation process
- Explain basic system operation, thermostat use, maintenance requirements, and equipment features to the customer upon completion
- Ensure the customer receives a professional installation experience from arrival through final walkthrough
- Assist with training and developing less-experienced installers and helpers through hands-on field leadership
- Maintain responsibility for the overall quality and completion of assigned installation projects
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior successful experience performing residential HVAC installations
- Demonstrated ability to independently complete HVAC system replacements
- Strong understanding of residential heating and cooling systems
- Experience with furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, coils, and related HVAC equipment
- Strong brazing, refrigerant piping, evacuation, charging, electrical, and system startup skills
- Ability to read installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Ability to lead and provide direction to an installation helper or second installer in the field
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain professional workmanship and jobsite standards
- NATE certification preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to pass required background check and drug screening
