Upshift is hiring Line Cooks for the dining halls of Ann Arbor's biggest university and for restaurants, hotels and event kitchens across Ann Arbor. You are a W-2 employee of Upshift; we schedule you on the shifts you choose.
About the job
- Work the line: grill, sauté, fry and station cooking in a high-volume kitchen.
- Set up and stock your station before service; break it down and sanitize after.
- Follow recipes, portion standards and food-safety rules.
- Shifts available now: breakfast, lunch and dinner, including weekends. Typical shift 5–8 hours.
Schedule — you choose your own hours
After a one-time sign-up, you see every open shift in the Upshift app and claim the ones that fit your week — two mornings, five full days, or steady full-time hours all semester. Change it week to week. There is no minimum, and you are never penalized for not claiming a shift.
Pay and benefits
- $20.00 per hour. The rate is shown on every shift before you claim it.
- Clock in and out on your phone; you are paid by Upshift through payroll, fast.
- Health, dental and vision insurance available after your first paycheck.
- W-2 employee — taxes withheld, workers' comp covered. Not 1099, no fees to you.
- Ratings build your profile; a strong reputation unlocks more and higher-paying shifts.
Requirements
- Cooking experience of any kind: line, prep, grill, cafeteria, catering or quick-service.
- 18 or older, with a smartphone.
- Able to stand for a full shift and lift up to 50 lb.
- Reliable transportation to campus recommended.
