Athena Restaurant Chicago is seeking an experienced, dependable, and team-oriented Evening Line Cook to join our culinary team. The Evening Line Cook plays a critical role in delivering exceptional guest experiences by preparing and executing authentic Greek cuisine with consistency, efficiency, and attention to detail. This position is responsible for maintaining quality standards, ensuring proper food preparation, and supporting a clean and organized kitchen environment.

This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to Athena Restaurant recipes, specifications, and presentation standards.
  • Set up and stock assigned stations with all necessary supplies before service.
  • Execute food orders accurately and efficiently during service while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Maintain knowledge of all menu items, ingredients, preparation methods, and daily specials.
  • Ensure all food is prepared, portioned, and plated according to established standards.
  • Assist with food preparation, production, and station organization throughout the shift.
  • Monitor food quality and communicate any product shortages or issues to kitchen management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times.
  • Properly label, date, store, and rotate products in accordance with food safety standards.
  • Follow all sanitation, health, and safety regulations, including proper handling of food and kitchen equipment.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with fellow kitchen staff and front-of-house team members.
  • Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing deliveries as needed.
  • Complete opening, closing, and side work responsibilities.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year of line cook experience in a high-volume restaurant preferred.
  • Experience preparing Mediterranean or Greek cuisine is preferred but not required.
  • Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain certification prior to employment.
  • Strong understanding of kitchen operations, food preparation techniques, and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work efficiently and remain composed during busy service periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality and consistency.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and established procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work in hot, humid, and high-noise conditions for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment, knives, and other culinary tools.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance and clean uniform at all times.
