A growing law firm in the western suburbs of Chicago is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its team. This is an opportunity for an attorney to gain hands on experience with a variety of complex civil and commercial disputes while working closely with seasoned attorneys in a collaborative, close knit environment.

The firm offers the opportunity to take an active role in case strategy, client communications, and courtroom proceedings, with increasing responsibility as experience grows. Attorneys have the opportunity to develop their practices, build lasting client relationships, and potentially progress toward a partnership role.

Job Details

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial litigation and complex civil matters through various stages of the litigation process.
• Research legal issues and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses.
• Communicate with clients regarding case developments, legal strategy, and potential outcomes.
• Participate in fact and expert depositions, including preparing witnesses and examining opposing witnesses.
• Appear in court for hearings, contested motions, and other proceedings.
• Assist with trial preparation and participate in arbitrations, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
• Work alongside other attorneys to develop case strategies and resolve complex legal disputes.
• Manage case deadlines, maintain organized files, and ensure timely, high quality work product.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Illinois.
• At least one year of experience handling commercial litigation, complex civil litigation, or a closely related practice area.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
• Professionalism and a commitment to providing excellent client service.
• Experience with depositions, court appearances, or trial preparation is preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and legal research platforms such as Westlaw.
