What You’ll Do
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic equipment issues within your training and qualifications.
- Perform preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, component replacements, and major mechanical repairs.
- Read equipment manuals, blueprints, and mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Complete welding and fabrication work using equipment such as welders and plasma cutters.
- Plan assigned projects, identify required parts, and estimate equipment downtime.
- Respond to production breakdowns, communicate repair status, and recognize when specialized support is needed.
- Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend improvements.
- Document completed work, parts used, and follow-up needs.
- Assist and train less-experienced mechanics.
- Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, PPE, GMP, and food safety procedures.
Class 2 Maintenance Technician
- Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Intermediate electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair skills, including reading schematics.
- Ability to fabricate using a welder and plasma cutter.
- Ability to complete repairs and projects with minimal oversight, including planning parts and estimating downtime.
- Ability to coordinate daily maintenance tasks when designated in the supervisor’s absence.
- Typically 10 or more years of relevant industrial maintenance experience, or equivalent demonstrated capability.
Class 3 Maintenance Technician
Must meet all Class 2 requirements and demonstrate at least two of the following:
- Advanced electrical diagnosis and repair, including installation and setup of electrical systems within applicable qualifications and company authorization.
- Advanced fabrication skills using both a lathe and mill.
- Ability to identify plant improvement opportunities and manage projects from planning and material procurement through completion.
Additional Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing production needs.
- Willingness to work assigned shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Food manufacturing experience, technical education, apprenticeship completion, or relevant trade credentials preferred.
Work Environment
This position involves working around industrial equipment in areas that may be hot, cold, noisy, or wet. Duties require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and using approved climbing and lifting equipment. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
