This is an Unclassified-Regular Position - Full time 12-month position.

This position is located in the Shared Services / Statewide Support

The Louisiana Special School District is an educational service agency that includes the Louisiana Special Schools (Louisiana School for the Deaf and Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired) and Special School Programs.

This position is applicable to all Outreach Teachers at the Louisiana School for the Deaf and Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired.

Physical Activity Level

Some work is performed in physically comfortable positions with little or light physical effort, and some work requires moderate effort. Minimum Qualifications

Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate

Holds a current Louisiana teaching certificate.

Valid Out-of-State Teaching Certificate

Holds a current teaching certificate from another state.

Alternative Certification Candidate

Holds a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and Has documented enrollment in an approved alternative teacher prep program.

Responsibilities

The employee must be able to perform these assigned duties without significant risk of substantial harm to his/her own safety/security and the safety/security of others.

Program Management Responsibilities

  • Implements Special School District and Louisiana School for the Deaf instructional philosophy, program, and curricula when providing outreach services to children and their families.
  • Exhibits knowledge of special education rules and regulations associated with implementation of state and federal laws.
  • Exhibits understanding of handicapped children and their needs, especially the deaf and hearing impaired children served by the school, and demonstrates awareness of specialists, agencies, and organizations that serve disabled children and their families.
  • Demonstrates appropriate and effective office management skills such as planning, organizing and implementing.
  • Exercises good judgment in making decisions.
  • Maintains accurate records of contacts, instructional strategies implemented, current calendar of appointments, expense account forms, inventory records and student records; exercises confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law.
  • Applies knowledge and skills of program supervision demonstrating appropriate and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with professional associates, the community, the parents of the students and state and local agencies.
  • Exhibits understanding of disabled children and their needs

Programmatic Responsibilities

  • Travels throughout Louisiana to provide outreach services to children and their families.
  • Travels to SSD Baton Rouge campus on annually identified dates to assist with instruction and student activities as directed by the supervisor.
  • Administer prescribed pre and post tests to evaluate the student progress.
  • Provides input for decisions regarding placement of children in appropriate educational programs.
  • ·Uses designated curricula and materials in the teaching/learning process in a variety of approaches and techniques which develop lesson objectives and meet child and family needs.
  • Prepares and utilizes appropriate materials to meet specific needs of the child and the family.
  • ·Develop weekly lesson plans for child ages 0 - 3 for supervisory review.
  • ·Specifies learner outcomes in clear, concise objectives; includes activities that develop objectives; identifies materials needed for lessons; and states method(s) of evaluation.

  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality in attendance and in meeting obligations.
  • Exhibits professional ethics.
  • Exhibits initiative and recognizes and follows established communication channels.
  • Exhibits a willingness to accept and use suggestions for improvement.
