Job Summary: Support departmental efficiencies through scheduling, registration, patient pre-admission, admission, reception, and discharge functions. Obtain complete and accurate patient demographic information. Employ compliant patient liability collection techniques before, during, and after the date of service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Greet patients with world-class customer service and complete full registration at the time of service. Adhere to financial and cash control policies, explain and secure legal forms such as Advance Directives, Conditions of Admission, Consent for Treatment, Important Message from Medicare, and EMTALA. Scan Protected Health Information and create patient information packets for upcoming services. Assist with scheduling diagnostic procedures, enter data in the scheduling system, and provide appointment instructions. Educate patients on financial liabilities and collect payments using proper, compliant techniques. Perform hospital cash reconciliation and secure payment entry. Verify medical necessity per Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines. Verify insurance benefits, coverage, and eligibility. Complete registration financial clearance worklists and obtain authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled services. Secure inpatient visit notifications to payors and coordinate post-discharge care. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm. Working knowledge of PC, CRT, and printer. Knowledge of hospital environment functions and relationships preferred. Strong customer service skills and experience. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills for detailed information. Understanding of third-party payor requirements and compliance standards preferred. Proficiency in at least two Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department. Skilled in professional negotiation for patient collections. Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders for improved communication, productivity, and accuracy. Ability to interpret physician orders, medical terminology, and insurance cards. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. 0-1 year in a customer service role. 0-1 year administrative experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related area preferred. Some college coursework preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment Sit at a computer terminal for extended periods. Frequent standing, sitting, walking, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Occasionally push wheelchairs to assist patients. Resolve issues with physicians' offices and patients, including high volumes and uncooperative individuals. Work in hospital administration and patient care areas with potential exposure to life-threatening conditions. Flexible availability based on departmental needs. Additional Requirements: Vaccinations and screenings required as permitted by law (e.g., COVID-19, influenza). No security clearance, visa candidates, travel, relocation, commission, bonus, or overtime eligibility.
