Kforce has a client that is seeking a Payroll Accountant in Baltimore, MD. Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support payroll processing, payroll accounting, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, maintaining payroll records, preparing payroll-related accounting entries, reconciling payroll accounts, and supporting payroll tax reporting and audits. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, payroll experience, and the ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment. Key Responsibilities:
  • Process biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Review employee time records, earnings, deductions, taxes, and benefit withholdings for accuracy
  • Maintain payroll records and employee payroll data within the payroll system
  • Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries to the general ledger
  • Reconcile payroll accounts, payroll liabilities, benefit deductions, and clearing accounts
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
  • Coordinate payroll tax filings and year-end reporting, including W-2 processing
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing payroll documentation and support
  • Partner with Human Resources regarding onboarding, terminations, compensation changes, and benefits administration
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee inquiries
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll and employee information
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance payroll accuracy and efficiency
  • Stay current on payroll regulations, accounting standards, and best practices

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of payroll and/or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting principles and general ledger reconciliations
  • Experience with payroll systems and ERP/accounting software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
