Permanent Guest Teacher - Special Education

Duties

  • Report to the Special Education Department upon arrival at the school building.
  • Serve as instructional coverage for long-term teacher leaves; prepare for, attend, and actively participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as required.
  • Arrive on time, according to the workday hours published in the Substitute Teacher Handbook, to check in, review substitute plans and prepare for lessons of the day.
  • Uphold all District policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject.
  • Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures (including classroom management techniques) for the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Deliver lesson plans as outlined in the substitute plans or as instructed by administrators.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students within the assigned classroom and appropriately respond to all emergency situations.
  • Check out with the Special Education Division Secretary at the end of the workday.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS I endorsement.
  • Strong desire to work with students with disabilities.
  • Experience in working with students with academic, motor/developmental, and emotional needs.
  • Commitment to equity, excellence, academic and personal well-being of each student and high expectations for all students.
  • Ability to commit to working every school day during the term of the assignment.
  • Ability to work effectively in both special education and general education environments, in any subject area.
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint-based background check.
  • Written evidence of physical fitness (physical exam) completed within 90 calendar days prior to the starting date, or within 30 calendar days after the starting date.

Salary/Benefits

$250 per day, includes benefit package and retirement plan participation.
