Overview:
Schedule: 5 days per week; 8hr afternoon shifts, Mon - Fri and every other weekend.
 
Purpose Statement/Position Summary:  The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the preparation, distribution, control of sterile and non-sterile oral and injectable medications under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and participation in Division programs. There must be a final pharmacist check of all technician work involved in the preparation and/or dispensing of medications. Works toward effective, efficient use of all pharmacy resources. Employee will follow applicable policies and procedures in handling supplies, pharmaceuticals, and equipment. Other responsibilities include filling automated dispensing cabinets in patient care areas, checking for expired medications, and maintaining pharmacy inventory.
 
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ year related experience preferred. Knowledge and application of basic math skills including ratios and proportions. Knowledge of various Pharmacy dispensing systems and equipment. Minimum typing skills of 30 wpm with knowledge of various computer applications and systems.
 
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to speak, read and write the English language. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to effectively interface with Doctors, Nurses and other hospital employees. A good team player. Proven attention to detail. Knowledge of various Pharmacy dispensing systems and equipment, including but not limited to Cerner, Pyxis, and Autopharm Carousel. Knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 requirements for sterile compounding. Minimum typing skills of 30 wpm with knowledge of various computer applications and systems.
 
Education/Licensure/Certification: California Pharmacy Technician License, CPhT required. Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician School or Advanced Degree preferred. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred.

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates who exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
