Print Engineering and Authentication Technologist

Description -

Job Summary
The engineer is responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of secure authentication capabilities for HP print supplies using embedded secure microcontrollers (smart chips). This role partners closely with firmware, silicon vendors, cryptography specialists, and manufacturing teams to protect HP supplies from counterfeiting and unauthorized reuse, while ensuring a high-quality customer experience. This role will primarily focus on the integration of firmware and software with HP security chips.


Responsibilities

  • Create, design, develop, test, and deliver authentication features for smart‑chip–based print products
  • Define and implement secure authentication protocols between supplies and printers
  • Collaborate with firmware, ASIC/microcontroller vendors, HP product teams, and cryptography teams on secure implementations
  • Support threat modeling and attack analysis related to counterfeit and aftermarket supplies
  • Drive authentication requirements into new product introductions (NPI)
  • Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure robust deployment
  • Support field issues related to authentication failures or security events
  • Support IP enforcement activity.


Education & Experience Recommended

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Typically 7-10 years of experience developing firmware or software.  C/C++ experience preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded systems, secure microcontrollers, or firmware-integrated hardware
  • Working knowledge of authentication, security protocols, or cryptographic concepts
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across hardware, firmware, security, and manufacturing teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with secure elements, smart cards, or trusted execution environments (TEE)
  • Familiarity with anti‑counterfeiting technologies
  • Experience in printing systems, consumables, or embedded product ecosystems
  • Prior exposure to failure analysis, attack mitigation, or threat modeling
  • Experience writing object-oriented code (C#, Java, C++)
  • .NET experience preferred, development experience using C# and LINQ

The pay range for this role is $116,150 to $182,400 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
