EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPTION I
Education: Completion of, or the ability to complete within six months of application date, 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college coursework from an accredited college or university or an associate degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None required.
OPTION II
Education: Must be a high school graduate, have obtained a G.E.D or passed a high school proficiency examination.
Experience:
1) Two years of Active Duty in the Armed Forces, National Guard or Reserves with an Honorable Discharge. You must attach a copy of your Member-4 Form DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) or equivalent, indicating dates of service, to your application. For privacy reasons, it is recommended that you remove your social security information from the form.
OR
2) Currently be serving in the military with at least two years of Active Duty in the Armed Forces, National Guard, or Reserves. Official Military documents verifying and specifying the Active-Duty dates and your current Military Orders indicating dates of service must be attached to your application. For privacy reasons, it is recommended that you remove your social security information from the form.
OR
3) Two years of paid or volunteer experience in an organization providing oversight of youth or adults.
ALL OPTIONS
Applicants with uncompleted educational requirements may apply, test and proceed to background while in the process of completing the educational requirements. Applicant must complete educational requirements and submit proof of completion to the background investigator prior to receiving a conditional job offer. If this requirement cannot be met, applicant will be disqualified from the process.
Knowledge of: Individual and group counseling techniques; the development, needs and problems of detainees; methods and techniques of effective group supervision; facilities, rules, procedures, and policies relating to detention care and treatment of detainees standard health practices and first aid.
Ability to: Establish and maintain rapport with detainees; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of department staff, government, business, community officials, and community-based organizations; learn techniques for collaborative problem solving and for supervising and guiding groups of detainees under detention; learn and apply basic first aid techniques; exercise good judgment in stress situations; follow oral and written directions; speak and write effectively.
Legality for Employment: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
Age: Candidates must attain the age of 21 years prior to the completion of the background process. Applicants aged 20½ years may apply for the position, test and proceed to the background process.
