Project Director – Mechanical Construction
Location: St. Louis Metro
Base Salary: $150,000–$195,000, depending on experience
Additional Compensation: Annual bonus and employee ownership
This position is with a large, full-service mechanical contractor that is looking to add an experienced Project Director to its St. Louis-area team.
This company performs major commercial and industrial mechanical work across the country, including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, power piping, fabrication, industrial ventilation, and equipment installation. They have the resources and experience to take on highly complex projects with very large mechanical scopes.
This position is best suited for a proven mechanical construction leader who can oversee major projects, support and develop project management teams, manage financial performance, and maintain strong relationships with clients and project partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee large and complex mechanical construction projects.
- Monitor project financials, forecasts, margins, schedules, labor productivity, and overall performance.
- Lead and support Project Managers and Senior Project Managers.
- Identify project risks early and help teams develop practical solutions.
- Maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with estimating, engineering, design, fabrication, and field leadership.
- Review contracts, plans, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
- Provide guidance on change orders, cost reviews, manpower needs, and resource planning.
- Coach and develop project management team members.
- Support workforce planning and company-wide operational initiatives.
- Ensure projects meet expectations for safety, quality, schedule, profitability, and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive project management experience within mechanical construction.
- Experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Project Director, or similar leader.
- Strong background in HVAC, piping, plumbing, process piping, or industrial mechanical construction.
- Experience managing large and highly complex mechanical projects.
- Strong understanding of project financials, forecasting, cost control, scheduling, labor productivity, and risk management.
- Proven ability to lead project teams and manage client relationships.
- Ability to read and understand contracts, plans, specifications, and construction documents.
- Estimating knowledge, particularly related to change orders, labor hours, and project costs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience will be considered.
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Viewpoint, Autodesk, or similar construction software is preferred.
