JOB DESCRIPTION

Project Portfolio Analyst
Location: White Plains, NY
Work Arrangement: Hybrid—minimum 3 days onsite per week; may require fully onsite work based on departmental needs
Duration: 12-month contract
Anticipated Start Date: Immediate
Experience Level: Level 1—minimum 4 years of relevant experience
Pay Rate: $37.00/hr on W2

Work Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • 7.5-hour workday with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
  • Paid only for actual hours worked; no paid vacation or sick leave
  • No work is permitted during company or Canal holidays

Position Overview
The Project Portfolio Analyst will support project and program controls, including building annual and future portfolios of work, monitoring the performance of the current project portfolio, and providing financial analysis and reporting to support organizational decision-making.
This role will analyze project budgets, schedules, resource needs, risks, spending forecasts, and portfolio trends. The analyst will also support project-governance activities and help ensure projects progress from initiation through closeout in a controlled and consistent manner.

Key Responsibilities
Project and Portfolio Monitoring
  • Monitor the performance of the current year's portfolio of projects.
  • Help identify the projects most critical to organizational success.
  • Support the prioritization of work to ensure the appropriate projects are completed within budget.
  • Analyze project performance, resource requirements, schedules, risks, and portfolio dependencies.
  • Recommend potential portfolio-balancing actions when projects shift off course.
  • Evaluate which projects may need to be deferred, which resources may be affected, and whether schedule changes could impact other projects.
  • Perform preliminary reviews of project budget submissions and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and document substantive changes in budgets, schedules, scope, or resource requirements.
Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Provide accurate and timely information regarding project performance, expenditure forecasts, and portfolio-spending trends.
  • Prepare and distribute ad hoc reports related to project and portfolio data.
  • Provide financial and project information to senior and lead portfolio analysts.
  • Support the collection and evaluation of future capital and operating expenditure requirements.
  • Assist in evaluating the overall organizational benefits of proposed projects and investments.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, documents, templates, presentations, and visual reporting materials.
Project Controls and Governance
  • Assist in ensuring projects progress from initiation through closeout in a controlled manner.
  • Help project teams navigate project-governance processes.
  • Promote consistent project-management methodologies and communication practices.
  • Partner with the Controls Lead to support annual and future portfolio planning.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency across the project-governance database.
  • Support implementations and meet established project deadlines.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a comparable discipline.
  • At least four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong analytical, financial-analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience organizing, analyzing, and presenting project, portfolio, budget, or financial data.
  • Ability to evaluate project performance, spending forecasts, resource requirements, risks, and scheduling impacts.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including:
    • PivotTables
    • Excel Tables
    • Database formulas
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Strong computer-application and file-organization skills.
  • Ability to produce logical, accurate, and effective reports.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments and complete tasks on time, sometimes with limited supervision.
  • Proactive approach to learning, process improvement, and organizational change.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within a Project Management Office environment.
  • Experience with project controls, portfolio management, project governance, or capital planning.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access.
  • Working knowledge of SAP products.
  • Experience supporting capital expenditure and operating expenditure planning.
  • Experience maintaining or improving project-governance databases.

Engagement Requirements
  • Fully remote work is not available.
  • The hybrid schedule requires at least three days onsite per week and may change to fully onsite based on business needs.
  • Remote-work privileges may be revoked at any time.
  • A company laptop will not be provided. A company desktop and dedicated workstation will be available for remote access using the worker's personal equipment on virtual days.
  • Candidates must have suitable personal equipment and reliable internet service for virtual work.
  • Foreign-national status and all visa details must be disclosed at submission.
  • A Benefits Waiver and Ethics Disclosure will be required during onboarding.
