The next great challenge is coming:
As a Senior Quest Designer, you will take ownership of designing, building, and shipping complete quest lines for a co-operative survival action-RPG built on strong life-simulation and base-building foundations. You will own quests end to end, from premise and spatial structure through blockout and in-engine scripting to final tuning, populating entire regions of a shared high-fantasy world with content that holds up whether players approach it alone or as a group.
You are exactly who we need if you come from a Level Design foundation and think about quests as spaces first - thriving at the intersection of world layout, systemic design, and hands-on implementation in Unreal Engine 5. You bring a sharp eye for quest and spatial pacing, a strong player empathy mindset, and a passion for content that rewards curiosity, cooperation, and experimentation. In other words, you are designing journeys.
Superpowers you have:
- 6+ years of professional experience in Level Design, with a substantial part of that time spent designing quest or mission on PC or console titles.
- At least one shipped title with responsibility for level layouts and the quest or mission content built inside them.
- Strong level-building craft - blockouts, layout iteration, navigation, and readability - plus the judgement to know when a quest needs its space reshaped.
- Expertise in Unreal Engine 5, layout and blockout tools, Blueprint scripting, and data-driven gameplay implementation.
- Proven ability to design quest lines that marry narrative intent with the game's systemic gameplay.
- Strong understanding of objective readability, player guidance, quest pacing, and reward structure.
- Experience designing content for co-operative play, multiple players, drop-in/drop-out sessions, and shared progression.
- Comfortable working to another studio's design intent and quality bar, and turning review notes into concrete improvements.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Able to work autonomously against agreed briefs and milestones within a distributed co-development setup.
You're a rockstar if you have:
- Experience on survival, life-simulation, base-building, or crafting-driven games.
- Familiarity with high-fantasy settings, and comfort designing within guides.
- Experience with quest content in shared, multiplayer worlds.
- Background in scripting emergent moments, dynamic world events, or repeatable systemic content.
- Experience with cinematic moment integration, ambient storytelling, and visual scripting.
- Deep understanding of content progression across difficulty curves and player power scaling.
- Comfort reviewing legacy content and making editorial-level decisions about pacing and value.
Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will:
- Own quest lines end to end - premise, beat structure, implementation, and final tuning.
- Translate region briefs and high-level design intent into quest structures, objective flows, and content maps.
- Script and implement quests in Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprint, in-house quest tooling, and data-driven configuration.
- Blockout, adapt, and iterate on the spaces your quests take place in - reshaping layouts, sightlines, and navigation where the content requires it.
- Populate assigned regions with a coherent mix of main, side, and ambient content that makes the world feel lived-in and worth exploring.
- Author showcase quests that exemplify the best of the game's systems, world, and shared narrative within your assigned regions.
- Tune objectives, rewards, difficulty, and pacing so quests read clearly and stay fair across party sizes and playstyles.
- Collaborate with Narrative Designers on dialogue, characters, and tone; with Game Designers on combat and enemy setups; and with Technical Design on scripting support and tooling.
- Participate in regular playtests and feedback sessions, iterating based on both internal feedback and design intent.
- Maintain thorough documentation and content maps for quest intent, dependencies, and tuning data.
- Flag tooling and pipeline friction early, and suggest improvements where you see them.
- Proactively maintain, debug, and polish assigned quest content to ensure high quality, stability, and performance on PC and console.
- Support and mentor the Middle Quest Designers.
