Reinsurance Accounting Manager

Overview

We are partnering with a growing insurance organization seeking a Reinsurance Accounting Manager to lead core reinsurance accounting operations. This role will oversee financial reporting, ceded/assumed reinsurance activities, and ensure accuracy across month-end close, reporting, and audit processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day reinsurance accounting activities across ceded and/or assumed business
• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
• Review and analyze reinsurance treaties, ensuring proper accounting treatment under US GAAP / Statutory / IFRS (if applicable)
• Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, and finance teams to validate premium, losses, and recoverables
• Maintain and reconcile reinsurance subledger to general ledger
• Prepare and review schedules for financial reporting and disclosures (statutory and GAAP)
• Support internal and external audits, including documentation and controls

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5-10+ years of insurance or reinsurance accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures (quota share, excess of loss, etc.)
• Experience with US GAAP and Statutory reporting (IFRS a plus)
• CPA or progress toward certification preferred
• Hands-on experience with accounting systems and large data sets (SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
