What you'll do:

The Sales Lead serves as the primary operational partner for the Outside Sales team by coordinating customer projects, managing sales support activities, and facilitating communication between customers, vendors, production, dispatch, estimating, and internal departments. This role helps ensure projects progress smoothly from quotation through delivery while supporting customer satisfaction, sales growth, and operational efficiency. The Inside Sales Lead also provides guidance and mentorship to Inside Sales Representatives and Sales Support Specialists while serving as a technical resource for the sales team.

Sales Leadership & Support

  • Serve as the primary inside sales resource supporting Outside Sales Representatives and key customer accounts
  • Coordinate customer projects from quotation through delivery and project completion
  • Assist Outside Sales Representatives with project planning, scheduling, and execution
  • Prepare and review quotations, sales orders, purchase orders, contracts, and related sales documentation
  • Support complex customer accounts and high-value sales opportunities

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate project activities between Sales, Estimating, Purchasing, Dispatch, Warehouse, Production, and Customer Service teams
  • Assist with project budgets, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Monitor project progress and proactively communicate schedule updates, delivery changes, and customer requirements
  • Help resolve project issues while maintaining customer satisfaction and operational efficiency
  • Support successful project execution from project initiation through final delivery

Customer & Vendor Relationships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, builders, vendors, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer inquiries, order status, and project coordination
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly while maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • Coordinate with vendors regarding product availability, lead times, pricing, and delivery schedules
  • Maintain strong partnerships that support long-term customer success

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Inside Sales Representatives and Sales Support Specialists
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and product knowledge development
  • Help resolve customer escalations and complex order issues
  • Share best practices that improve customer service, sales support, and operational efficiency
  • Promote collaboration across Sales, Operations, Purchasing, and Customer Service teams

Sales Operations

  • Maintain organized customer files, project documentation, and sales records
  • Monitor order accuracy, inventory availability, and delivery schedules
  • Analyze sales support processes and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Assist with reporting, sales metrics, and operational performance tracking
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve customer satisfaction, gross margin, and workflow efficiency
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Sales, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in inside sales, sales support, project coordination, or customer service
  • Experience in the building materials, lumber, millwork, construction supply, or industrial distribution industry preferred
  • Working knowledge of project coordination, estimating, inventory management, and order fulfillment
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings or blueprints
  • Experience using ERP, CRM, Point-of-Sale, or business management software (BisTrack preferred)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to support complex customer accounts and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Primarily office-based environment within a branch, warehouse, or distribution facility
  • Frequent interaction with customers, vendors, contractors, Outside Sales Representatives, warehouse personnel, dispatch, estimating, and management
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Occasional visits to warehouse, yard, or customer project sites may be required
  • Ability to occasionally lift office materials or product samples weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Flexibility to support extended hours during peak business periods as operational needs require
