Reports To: School Principal & Student Services Director

Salary: Based on NC State Salary Schedule for Licensed School Counselors

Start Date: August 10, 2026

Position Overview

Currituck County Schools is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and career development of students in grades K-5. The school counselor will design and implement a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the ASCA National Model. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success and well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement a comprehensive school counseling program addressing academic, career, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support student needs.
  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons aligned with developmental standards.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to identify and support students experiencing academic or behavioral challenges.
  • Attend MTSS/Intervention team meetings and assist with student support plans.
  • Provide crisis response and intervention when necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and confidentiality in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student needs and available support.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and community resources when appropriate.
  • Participate in school committees, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field
  • North Carolina School Counselor License (or eligibility for licensure
  • Knowledge of child development and counseling strategies for elementary-aged students
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an elementary school setting
  • Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Experience implementing the ASCA National Model
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
