Job Overview:
The Security Supervisor is a vital leader within NYRA's Security Department, responsible for managing shift security to ensure the safety of the facility, employees, and patrons. This role oversees security staff during assigned shifts-including track facility, backstretch, or racing operations-and commands sergeants who directly supervise front-line officers. Key duties include identifying floor security deficiencies, recommending mitigation strategies, ensuring strict adherence to NYRA policies and NYSGC regulations, and managing responses to major incidents and emergencies. Additionally, the midnight shift supervisor maintains direct operational oversight of the Security Operations Center (SOC).
Essential Functions:
Operations Coordination: Provides direct supervision to the sergeants, overseeing operations to guarantee activities are conducted in a proper and efficient manner while ensuring seamless communication and tactical coordination through the Joint Operations Center (JOC).
Incident Reporting & Review: Reviews, audits, and approves all officer reports within the digital Incident Management System (IMS) to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to department documentation protocols.
Equipment Oversight: Monitors all accountable equipment, ensuring the routine upkeep, auditing, and maintenance of all equipment issued to uniform officers.
Field Leadership & Assignment Inspections: Maintains direct contact with subordinates in the field, conducting periodic inspections of assigned personnel, static security assignments, and the general condition of the facility.
Strategic Planning Support: Partners with the department leadership to formulate, implement, and control the most efficient and economical action plans for the uniformed force during racing operations.
Critical Incident Escalation: Reports any critical security developments at all NYRA tracks immediately to the Senior Director and/or Vice President of Security.
Performance & Objective Review: Reviews of strategic objectives, accomplishments, daily field activities, and future deployment plans for the uniformed force.
Complaint Resolution: Reports any complaints involving security department members immediately to the Senior Director and/or Vice President of Security, and the HR business partner.
Personnel Evaluations: Maintains accurate, detailed records for the evaluation of uniform members under their command and prepares formal performance evaluations.
Supervisory Collaboration: Confers with other security supervisors to promote organizational uniformity, a shared understanding of purpose, and overall operational efficiency across all shifts.
Criminal & Accident Reporting: Reports any serious crimes, safety incidents, or accidents immediately to the law enforcement or medical services.
Departmental Support & Escorts: Assists the Investigations Department by coordinating and executing secure escorts for Mutuel, Admissions, and Parking personnel when needed.
General Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
