DescriptionThe Senior Accountant reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for accurate and timely journal entry creation, account reconciliations, fixed asset tracking and other financial reporting and analysis in compliance with GAAP. This position will also play a key role in the monthly closing process, budgeting and forecasting process and annual audit. This hybrid position is based in Michigan City, Indiana.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport the monthly general ledger close, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions. Analyze financial statements and investigate variances.Prepare and review monthly and quarterly account reconciliations with proper documentation.Prepare monthly financial analyses to support internal and external reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.Manage fixed assets, including CIP tracking, capitalization, depreciation, and periodic audits.Reconcile and monitor all cash activity.Prepare journal entries, accruals, and other adjusting entries.Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting requirements.Collaborate with management, auditors, and consultants as needed.Assist with special projects and process improvements.Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)Number of financial reports prepared and submitted on time.Number of days to close a month.Number of account reconciliations and timeliness of reconciliations.Budget to actual variance analysis.Number of journal entries timely prepared and accurately.RequirementsQualifications and Education5+ years of accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment.Bachelor's degree in accounting, MBA/CPA preferred.Public accounting experience a plus, but not required.Skills and CompetenciesAnalytical and detailed orientedAdvanced Excel and Data Analytics skillsEfficient and well-organized with the ability to prioritizeConfidentiality and integrityProfessional communication skills, both written and verbalMotivated with a desire to learnPhysical/Mental Essential FunctionsMust be efficient with strong attention to detail.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Lifting of file folders, opening file cabinets and bending and stooping.Travel to plant locations occasionally.Ability to input data into computers and departmental systems.Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents and manuals.Ability to interact / communicate effectively with customers, employees, and external personnel.Effectively communicate in English orally and in writing.Ability to identify, communicate and help prevent potential problems.Ability to solve practical problems within established parameters.Ability to follow a set of procedures or set sequencesAbility to use keyboard, sporadic 10 key.Ability to use a mouse (or alternative input device).Work ConditionsPrimarily in an office environment. Accounting staff generally work 8am to 5pm, flexing upward around month-end close. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some areas are narrow and difficult to maneuver. Must be able to walk one flight of stairs as there is no elevator access to the second floor.Work Conditions - RemoteWork in an efficient and healthy work space - good light, comfortable temperature, ergonomic adjustable chair, computer keyboard and mouse to suit your needs. Work within agreed upon work hours. Maintain proper posture, take breaks, and be sure to do stretches during your shift.
