This position plays an important role within the Finance team, supporting month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, grants, audits, compliance, and process improvement.

Job Details

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support monthly and annual financial close processes, including preparing and recording journal entries for prepaids, allocations, intercompany transactions, accruals, and other accounting activity.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger account reconciliations and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain schedules related to occupancy, right-of-use leases, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Reconcile bank, investment, and endowment accounts while researching and resolving variances.
  • Ensure financial activity and general ledger balances are accurate, complete, and properly supported.
  • Support pre-award and post-award grant accounting and administration.
  • Maintain organized electronic grant and contract files, funding trackers, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
  • Partner with Finance team members and program leadership to analyze financial activity and ensure appropriate use of grant and other funding sources.
  • Support annual financial statement audits, other audits, and regulatory filings.
  • Assist with preparation of information required for annual Form 990 filings across multiple entities.
  • Assist with annual operating budget preparation, implementation, monitoring, and analysis.
  • Help maintain the chart of accounts and ensure the ongoing integrity of the general ledger.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, procedures, GAAP, FASB standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, reporting, and technology.
  • Participate in special projects and finance initiatives.
  • Cross-train with Finance team members and provide departmental coverage when needed.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience with nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and financial management.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and FASB accounting standards and their application in a nonprofit environment.
  • Experience working with automated accounting/ERP systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) or a similar ERP system is preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills strongly preferred.
  • Experience with budgeting, electronic billing, and data management systems is a plus.
  • Experience managing accounting functions within a complex organization with multiple entities, funding sources, and revenue streams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong judgment and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with Finance, program leadership, and other internal stakeholders.
