Job Description

Why This Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced accountant who enjoys variety, ownership, and being an important part of a collaborative finance team. The role offers broad accounting exposure, significant flexibility, and the chance to work closely with senior finance leadership in a stable organization.

About the Company

Our client is an established, privately operated organization located in the greater Washington, DC region. The organization has a strong reputation in its market and offers a collaborative, professional work environment with long-tenured employees. The team values communication, accountability, and continuous improvement. Employees enjoy a flexible hybrid work environment and strong overall benefits.

About the Senior Accountant Role

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in day-to-day accounting and financial reporting while working closely with senior finance leadership. Because this is a lean accounting environment, the position offers exposure across the full accounting cycle rather than a narrow area of responsibility.

The Senior Accountant will support general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month-end close, and audit preparation. This person will also have opportunities to improve processes, strengthen reporting, and make better use of accounting technology.

The ideal candidate enjoys working collaboratively, communicating across departments, and taking ownership of both routine accounting responsibilities and new projects.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform full-cycle accounting, including general ledger activity, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end close

  • Prepare bank, cash, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations

  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting schedules

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities

  • Support financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities

  • Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and other compliance requirements

  • Partner with employees, vendors, and internal teams to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies

  • Help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, controls, and system utilization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field

  • Approximately 3-5+ years of accounting experience

  • Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting

  • Experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data

  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills

  • Collaborative communication style with the ability to work effectively across an organization

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Broad ownership across the accounting cycle rather than a highly specialized role

  • Direct exposure to senior finance leadership

  • Opportunity to improve processes, reporting, and accounting-system utilization

  • Collaborative team environment where the Senior Accountant can have meaningful visibility and impact
