A publicly traded, mission-driven organization headquartered in downtown Chicago is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations, lead a high-performing team, and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

\n

\n

This is a high-visibility role with direct exposure to the CAO and senior finance leadership, ideal for a technically strong CPA who enjoys building teams, improving processes, and operating at the intersection of accounting excellence and organizational transformation.

\n

\n

What You'll Do:

\n

• \n
• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across assigned areas including revenue accounting, accrual accounting, and operational accounting
• \n
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet analyses
• \n
• Contribute to the preparation and review of quarterly and annual SEC filings including Forms 10-Q and 10-K, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and all regulatory requirements
• \n
• Partner with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, HR, and operational leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and strategic decision-making
• \n
• Coordinate with and support external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits
• \n
• Ensure compliance with SOX, internal controls, GAAP standards, and organizational policies
• \n
• Support ERP implementations, system upgrades, and integration of new controls and processes
• \n
• Serve as a change agent proposing and implementing improvements to accounting policies, procedures, and controls
• \n
• Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team; establish clear goals, oversee workflow planning, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth

What We're Looking For:

\n

• \n
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree preferred
• \n
• CPA required
• \n
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience including 3+ years in a managerial role
• \n
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP including revenue recognition, leases, and credit losses
• \n
• Public accounting firm experience preferred
• \n
• Strong systems and process improvement mindset
• \n
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly
• \n
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• \n
