LHH is partnering with a large Mechanical/Electrical contractor in the construction industry with significant East Coast operations to add a Senior Accounting Manager to the team. Reporting to a Controller, this position oversees financial operations for a couple of divisions, partners closely with project managers/operations/leadership, and will supervise direct reports.Best suited for candidates with construction industry experience and experience managing teams.ResponsibilitiesOversee day‑to‑day accounting operations for multiple construction projects, including job cost accounting, billing, collections, and close activities.Ensure timely and accurate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting requirements.Partner closely with project managers, operations leaders, estimating, and procurement teams to evaluate project performance, margin trends, and cost drivers.Review and analyze work‑in‑progress (WIP), percentage‑of‑completion revenue, cost forecasts, and job profitability.Support project cash flow management, including billing schedules, retainage, lien releases, bonds, and collections.Provide financial insight and modeling to support bids, proposals, change orders, and capital investment decisions.Coach, mentor, and manage a team of accounting professionals, building accountability, consistency, and technical depth.Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, industry standards, and company policies.Support external audits, insurance reviews, and relationships with key vendors and third‑party partners.Drive continuous improvement initiatives across people, processes, and systems, including ERP enhancements and operational efficiencies.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or Master's degree strongly preferred.7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preference for construction industry experience.Strong hands‑on experience with construction accounting concepts such as WIP, job costing, retainage, bonds, OCIP, lien waivers, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition.Experience supporting Cost Plus (GMP), Fixed‑Fee, and Lump‑Sum contract structures.Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams.Experience with construction ERP platforms (e.g. Viewpoint, Sage, Procore, CMiC, or similar).Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices.Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing competing priorities across multiple projects.Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both financial and operational stakeholders.Benefits OverviewBenefit offerings for full‑time employment include medical, dental, vision, term life and AD&D insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, additional voluntary benefits, wellness plans, and a 401k planPersonal Time Off (PTO) is offered on an accrual basis up to 15 days (initially), 10 Paid Holidays, and up to 6 weeks of Paid Parental Leave (1+ years of employment).
