The Support Services Business Unit is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant in Portland, OR.
At David Evans and Associates (DEA), our financial accuracy and strategic insights drive our success. As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will play a key role in our Corporate Finance Team, applying advanced accounting principles to maintain accurate records, analyze financial data, and provide valuable insights to leadership.
This role requires a seasoned accounting professional with experience in financial reporting, general ledger accounting, and budgeting. You will work independently on complex accounting functions, support business leaders with financial analysis, and contribute to continuous process improvements. What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and oversee the company''''s fixed asset accounting processes, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and reconciliations.
- Manage lease accounting activities in accordance with applicable accounting standards (ASC 842), including lease setup, modifications, remeasurements, and ongoing compliance.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate recording of capital expenditures and lease transactions.
- Support annual audits by preparing fixed asset and lease accounting documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Prepare and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close processes.
- Analyze general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance
with GAAP.
- Produce financial reports and assist in the preparation of financial statements for management and leadership review.
- Collaborate closely with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Tax Compliance, Project Accounting, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support annual budgeting efforts and provide financial analysis to operational and business unit leaders.
- Assist with internal and external audits and ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain accounting process documentation.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency through automation and system enhancements.
- Participate in ERP system improvements, testing, and implementation initiatives.
- Serve as a resource for leadership by providing financial insights and recommendations that support business decisions.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor''''s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant experience in general ledger accounting, fixed asset accounting, and financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including fixed asset accounting and lease accounting requirements (ASC 842).
- Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and
complex formulas.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and present financial information to management.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public accounting experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL or similar ERP systems.
- Experience with a fixed asset or lease accounting software
- CPA License
- Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
- Experience supporting external audits and implementing process improvements

- The posted salary range represents the typical range for this position and is provided in accordance with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
