Senior Statutory Accountant

Pay Range: $32.00hr - $45.00hr

Job Overview:

Reporting to the Regulatory Reporting Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory accounting principles (SAP), preparing regulatory reporting statements, and maintaining accurate financial records in line with insurance industry standards. The Senior Statutory Accountant plays a key role in preparing monthly GAAP and STAT journal entries, statutory financial statements, and supporting audits and regulatory filings. This role requires a strong understanding of statutory accounting within the health insurance industry, along with the ability to analyze financial data, ensure compliance, and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual Statutory financial statements to ensure timely and accurate presentation to the NAIC and the appropriate state regulatory authorities (Health Statement).
• Prepare all supplemental filings that accompany the quarterly and annual Statutory financial statements as required by the appropriate state regulatory authorities.
• Work closely with external auditors and regulators to support audits and resolve inquiries.
• Analyze financial data and prepare internal reporting packages for management review.
• Support finance functions such as premium tax, treasury, and general ledger accounting.
• Perform account reconciliations, variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions to ensure financial accuracy.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial processes and resolve discrepancies.

Skills Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in statutory accounting within the health insurance industry.
• Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and NAIC reporting requirements.
• Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, solve complex accounting issues, and drive process improvements.
